About potentially sensitive or objectionable content in historical material from the Cleveland Memory Project

Content Notice

Materials in the Cleveland Memory Project, including collections from partner institutions, have been provided for historical research and educational purposes only. The views and opinions expressed in these materials do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of Cleveland State University or partner institutions. The content of some material may be considered sensitive, objectionable, and/or graphic in nature. Viewer and listener discretion is advised.

Ethical Cataloging Statement

We acknowledge that the language we use to catalog and describe our materials needs improvement. Standardized vocabularies, such as those managed by the Library of Congress or the Getty Research Institute, are constantly reviewed and updated to expand representation and correct biases. But we still sometimes lack authorized terms to accurately capture the experiences of women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. And some existing terms might use outdated language that we now understand to be harmful.

As always, we invite community input and we welcome your feedback. Please let us know if you encounter offensive or harmful language or if you have concerns about representation in our finding aids, catalog records, digital collections, exhibitions, publications, social media, or elsewhere. Email us at special.collections@csuohio.edu or call (216) 687-2449.
